Library Competency Classes
What is it?
The Library Competency class is a fully online, asynchronous course that provides MU students with an orientation to library services, including instruction on using the library’s online catalog, electronic resources, and the fundamentals of information literacy.
What happens next?
After a student has completed the Library Competency requirement by scoring 70% or higher on the Library Competency Test, his or her name is sent to the registrar’s office; for the registrar to make a note on the student’s transcript stating that the requirement has been fulfilled.
Who is it for?
All Methodist University students graduating under the 2024-25 catalog or earlier are required to complete this course prior to graduation. Students using the 2025-26 catalog or newer (including most Fall 2025 freshmen) are not required to complete it. Please ask your advisor if you are unsure whether you need to complete Library Competency.
