Thursday came as the perfect snapshot of Methodist University’s Nursing program – serving the community with expertise, compassion, and commitment.

Members of the community attended the Nursing program’s 10th Anniversary Celebration Open House on Thursday afternoon at the Robert J. Chaffin Building – commemorating the first cohort of MU Nursing students who graduated from the program in 2014.

“The Nursing program is one of the jewels of the crown at Methodist University, a University that’s quickly becoming known as one of the best universities for healthcare in the state of North Carolina,” said Methodist University President Stanley T. Wearden. “We are really proud of this program. Congratulations to Dr. Shannon Matthews and the whole team for making this such a great program.”

For two hours, the program’s faculty and staff provided community members with guided tours and demonstrations of the General Simulation Hospital that included a birthing simulation, pediatric and infant demonstrations, and adult patient simulators.

Since 2014, the Methodist University Nursing program has graduated 214 students with another 22 expected to graduate in May. Graduates have found successful careers at various high-level, local hospitals including Cape Fear Valley Health, Duke Health, UNC Health, and more.

“In celebrating this 10-year milestone, we honor the many lives touched by the Methodist University Nursing program,” said Matthews, chair and director of MU Nursing. “Our alumni have made incredible contributions to healthcare and are shaping the future of nursing and inspiring generations to come. As we move into the next chapter of our journey, we reaffirm our commitment to excellence, innovation, and above all, compassionate care.”
