You should plan to take the MCAT, complete the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) application, and engage in meaningful volunteering, clinical, and shadowing experiences. While we do not require specific prerequisite courses, you should pursue coursework and activities that develop the competencies we value. If you intend to start medical school immediately after graduation, begin the application process in your junior year. However, you should start building your extracurricular, clinical, and volunteer experience well before that, and plan your coursework strategically to prepare for medical school.

The Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine does not have a required major to apply to the MD program. Applicants should take coursework that prepares them for medical school. A list of suggested coursework is available.

We do not have an expiration date for coursework or experiences/clinical hours. However, we encourage applicants with coursework older than five years to have recent academic or clinical experiences to prepare them for medical school.

MCAT scores within the last three years are accepted.

All applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

The Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine offers a range of scholarships to help offset the cost of your education. In addition, graduate students can apply for federal direct loans by completing the FAFSA. Private loans are also an option for covering expenses, and programs such as the military may provide full tuition support if you meet their eligibility requirements. Methodist University offers graduate housing on campus, which is located around 9 miles (or 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic) from Cape Fear Valley Health. Methodist University also offers different meal plans for on-campus dining. Cape Fear Valley Health offers a hospital cafeteria, Starbucks, Chick-fil-a, and Panera Bread at their Fayetteville location.

Yes! Fayetteville has the Fayetteville Area System Transit (FAST) buses, which run along 18 routes. Methodist University students can purchase a discounted pass by providing their email and student ID. Rideshare services are also available in the area.

Medical students are highly encouraged to have their own mode of transportation.
