We believe a study abroad experience is an essential component of well-rounded university education and we are committed to providing financial assistance to as many students as possible in support of their goal to study abroad. Ashley Soule Conroy Foundation Scholarship
Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at a four-year college or university in the United States and who are planning to participate in full-time study abroad for at least one full semester outside of the United States.

Boren Scholarships for International Study
Boren Scholarships, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.

Benjamin A. Gilman
The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic competitiveness. The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.

Bridging Scholarships
The United States-Japan Bridging Foundation funds scholarships through AATJ to help students to study abroad in Japan. Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Prior Japanese language study is not required. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must be enrolled as undergraduates in a college or university in the U.S. Their terms of study in Japan should be at least three months long.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals to Germany
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a fellowship funded by the German Bundestag and U.S. Department of State, that annually provides 75 American and 75 German young professionals, between the ages of 18½–24, the opportunity to spend one year in each other’s countries, studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program.

Critical Language Scholarship
The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for U.S. American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. Cultural Vistas Fellowship
For the summer of 2019, Cultural Vistas will select up to 15 fellows to take part in this multinational professional development program that includes eight-week summer internships in Argentina, Germany, and Hong Kong. This fellowship opportunity is funded by Cultural Vistas. The seventh class of Cultural Vistas Fellows will enrich their academic learning through professional internship and immersion experiences focused on civic engagement and youth involvement during the summer of 2019. One cohort of up to four fellows will travel to each international destination.

David Porter Scholarship (Minority Groups and Disabilities)
Named in honor of David Porter, who has served on the IES Abroad Board of Directors since 1995, this scholarship is open to students of diverse cultural backgrounds who have been traditionally under-represented on study abroad programs. One award given each term of up to $5,000 off the IES Abroad program fee. Open to students who have been traditionally under-represented on study abroad programs. This group includes, but is not limited to, students identifying by a certain race, sex, color, religion, creed, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, age, marital status, national origin or ancestry, ethnic origin or veteran status.

Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund
The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund aids people active in movements for social and economic justice. These need-based scholarships are awarded to students who are able to do academic work at the college or university level or are enrolled in a trade or technical program and who are active in the progressive movement. Early recipients worked for civil rights, against McCarthyism and for peace in Vietnam. Applicants must have participated in activities in the US, and there is a strong preference for applicants who plan on working in this country.

Diversity Abroad Scholarships
Undergraduates at a university or community college and be accepted to a study abroad program offered by a Diversity Abroad member organization. Freeman Asia
A Freeman-ASIA award provides need-based funding to assist the recipient with the cost of the study abroad program and related expenses, including airfare, basic living costs, local transportation, books, etc.

Fulbright UK Summer Program Scholarship
The Fulbright UK Summer Program Scholarship is for first or second-year college students going to the UK for a four to six-week summer program. The Fulbright Commission is seeking evidence of leadership qualities and initiative, academic ability, character, adaptability and ambassadorial qualities, as well as an interest in the UK and its culture.

Scholarships available to students, including a general scholarship and specific scholarships dedicated to various student populations. Generation Study Abroad Travel Grants IIE
IIE Generation Study Abroad Travel Grants will be made available for U.S. students from a broad range of backgrounds to make it possible for them to participate in academic, internship or service-learning experiences abroad. The scholarship program is intended to diversify study abroad and to encourage students to go abroad who would otherwise not participate in an international experience as part of their college education, especially in support of high-achieving, low-income students.

Good Colleges
Good Colleges was founded by Dr. Andrew Lancaster with the mission of helping students find information about the best career options and educational paths available for each student’s chosen field of study. To further this mission, an annual scholarship is provided for study abroad programs. Award selection will be based on essay submissions, and particular attention will be paid by the judges to applicants who demonstrate a well thought out plan of what they hope to learn and achieve by studying abroad.

Go Overseas Annual Scholarship
Go Overseas offers two annual scholarships. One to Scotland and the other to New Zealand. The scholarship to Scotland is $15,000 with flights included. The program is at the University of Edinburgh. The Scholarship to New Zealand is also $15,000 and covers all expenses.

Morgan Stanley Scholarship for Study in Japan
Morgan Stanley awarded two scholarships to US students for study in Japan during the academic year 2018-2019: Caralee Casto, from Marshall University, WV, who is studying at Kansai Gaidai, and Abigail Kruska, from Portland State University, who is studying at Aoyama Gakuin. Eligible students include students at US universities (citizens or permanent residents) who have an interest in economics and international finance and who have been accepted for study in Japan for the academic year. Winners of the Morgan Stanley Japan Scholarships are awarded scholarships of $7,500 to help finance their studies.

National Italian American Foundation
The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) awards scholarships to 60-70 outstanding students in a variety of academic disciplines for use during the following academic year. Scholarships range from $2,500 – $12,000. To be considered for a NIAF scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:
- Be a member of NIAF or have a parent, grandparent or guardian with an active NIAF membership. Not a member? Visit our membership page to join or renew your membership today!
- Be enrolled in a US accredited institution of higher education for the Fall 2019 semester.
- Have a grade-point average of at least 3.5 out of 4.0 (or the equivalent). Some scholarships require a lower GPA requirement for eligibility. Students that are a part of a pass-fail system are also eligible to apply.
- Be a United States citizen or permanent resident alien.
- For the purposes of the NIAF Scholarship Program, to be considered “Italian American,” the student must have at least one ancestor who has immigrated from Italy

Education New Zealand and New Zealand tertiary institutions are supporting Generation Study Abroad students with excellence and travel awards. There are three different scholarships available for semester study in New Zealand.

Rainbow Scholarship
The Rainbow Scholarship awards deserving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) students who aim to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs. Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford
Each year 32 young students from the United States are selected as Rhodes Scholars, through a decentralized process representing the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories. Scholar Trips
The Scholar Trips Study Abroad Scholarship is sponsored by Allianz Global Assistance and seeks to increase access for U.S. students who wish to travel and study abroad. Award selection is based primarily on the content and quality of submitted essays or videos, and judges will look for entries that express passion, create impact, and demonstrate creativity. The Toshizo Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship Program (Up to Full Scholarships)
