Students review their math

Mathematics & Data Science

Methodist University is an excellent choice for the study of Mathematics and Data Science. Mathematics is a major that challenges students not only to think in abstract terms, but to use mathematics in real-life applications. The faculty focuses on facilitating students’ understanding of mathematical concepts. The object is to have students build on those concepts so they can use mathematics to solve problems in a variety of fields. Small classes enable the faculty to give personal attention to each student. Independent studies are available. Methodist offers the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Data Science, a Mathematics minor, and an Associate of Science in Mathematics.

In addition to the degrees listed above, the Department of Mathematics, along with the Engineering Program, offers a double major in engineering and mathematics (Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics).

The Department of Mathematics, along with the Teacher Education Program, offers a concentration in middle grade (6-9) mathematics. Please see the Teacher Education Program for Middle Grades (6-9) Mathematics Concentration requirements.

The Department of Mathematics, along with the Teacher Education Program, offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics Education Grades 9-12. Please see the Teacher Education Program for the B.A. in Mathematics Education requirements.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Mathematics & Data Science is to promote the field of Mathematics and to ensure that Methodist University students acquire the necessary mathematical skills to succeed in their chosen career.
