Center for Research & Creativity
Welcome to the CRC!
As an undergraduate student majoring in biology, I always enjoyed the application of concepts learned in lecture through the hands-on experience of a lab. I was able to take this type of experience further during my junior and senior years while I conducted an independent research project with my faculty mentor. My goal as the Director of Methodist University’s Center for Research and Creativity is to provide the resources for our students to have similar experiential learning opportunities.
I have purposefully structured my courses so that my students think scientifically while taking the time to observe and be curious about what is going on in and around them. Like many of my colleagues, I have fostered this training by providing students with the opportunity to collaborate outside of the classroom on various research projects and other creative experiences.
Continuing to increasing the number and quality of student-faculty collaborative research and creative projects is something Methodist University and the CRC is intentionally striving to accomplish. Engaging students in their coursework through these types of projects creates an environment in which students are empowered by the curriculum. Before graduating, every student should have the opportunity to take part in undergraduate research or a creative project with a member of the faculty.
I am honored to assist with this effort by providing opportunities for participation in undergraduate research and creativity projects. These collaborative experiences are vital in our students' educations, as they provide an arena for them to synthesize their learning by applying their coursework to the world outside of the classroom.
