
Student Consultant Program
The Writing Center student consultant walk-in program allows excellent student writers to become walk-in consultants. Students are trained and supervised before independently consulting and joining the Writing Center staff as employees.
To qualify, students must
- Have completed English 1010 and English 1020 with a grade of “B” or better
- Complete a Saturday, six-hour training class (after which each student receives a “Certificate of Completion” that will be documented on that student’s co-curricular transcript)
- Perform well on a comprehensive grammar exam and on an editing exam (that tests the student’s ability to identify higher and lower order skill deficiencies)
- Participate in a shadowing apprenticeship experience with professional consultants
- Complete two supervised consultations
